Use your Schwab debit card to withdraw money. Don't exchange any foreign currency either ahead of time or at the airport because you're going to get ripped off there. Tippings are almost never expected in New Zealand, except on free walking tours where that's how they get paid. You can just go get on the tour, wait until you see an ATM, withdraw equivalent of 10 or 20 bucks in local currency and then boom! Then you don't have to worry about using cash from home.
