Is the NIH Funding Risky Research?
One of the first things that people jump to was, ah, it's the grant agencies. One really interesting preprint came out a year or two ago evaluated the European Research Council. They looked at a sample of papers that were funded by the NIH. And what they actually found for this analysis was not really more or less disruptive than papers during the same time period that weren't. So it could be that overall environment that doing incremental research is a little bit safer.
