Nobel Laureates understand that luck in the best sense has been very important to them. They recognize that whatever it is that they work on, they were lucky to find that problem. There could have been other problems. But then all of that luck goes hand in hand with having the innate good taste to make the right decision at the right moment. And so it's this combination of luck, good taste and those come together, as you say, to form identity.
