You can also, justifiably, fail to respect the perspective of people around you if their perspective really does not deserve to be appreciated. So I might not appreciate the perspective of a neo-Nazi, right? But I'm not culpably failing to do that. That perspective does not merit respect. And on the opposite end of the spectrum is the sweetheart. It's over backwards to understand the perspective of other people. Sometimes even going too far.
