The Tragic Exile of the Jews
Do we know roughly how many Jews were expelled from Spain or how many left in the light of the choice between expulsion and conversion? It's good to get accurate numbers. The Jews weren't huge in number in Spain anyway. I think probably as many as 10,000 went. And do we know anything about their experience of this trauma? Do we have any evidence from any of those who departed? Yes, I mean, there are some accounts,. one written by the Christian Royal historian, Bernal who had seen really when the Jews actually arrived at the coast and see the sea which many of them had never seen before. So I think that the suffering was extreme as they went into exile.
