Both of the accused pleaded not guilty. Their trial began December 24th and it went a full 24 hours. It was presided over by a panel of four justices. The strength of the physical evidence was definitely bolstered by the crown's key witness. William hair. He testified that it was Burke who plotted with McDougall to kill Dockarty for money.
