Cleveland: A Racially Progressive Democrat
Cleveland is interesting on this front because if you judge him by the context of his time, he seems quite racially progressive. There's an excerpt in the book that I take from one of Frederick Douglass's autobiographies. He was invited to the White House several times by Cleveland. And what's kind of salient about this where Cleveland is concerned is how little he says about it. It's a obviously painful moment post Civil War and pre Civil Rights reform.
