Candy is an old man who works on the farm. He's very nice to George and Lenny once he gets to know them. And then about halfway through the book, when he hears about their plan to get this farm, he's like, hey, could you cut me in? Like I've got enough money to get you a down payment. But I don't like, I'm not valuable as a worker. Can I join in? So there's this like world of rugged individualism where everyone's just kind of like trying to get by on their own.
