The Importance of History in Football

The rules of contemporary football weren't set until 1863 when the English Football Association was formed. FIFA adopted the penalty shootout in 1970, just a few years before I was born. And it has since given us many of football's most iconic moments such as Brandy Chastain's World Cup winning spot kick in 1999.
