Diogenes of Cinnopy
The eccentric philosopher openly criticized Alexander, which perhaps surprisingly actually endeared him to the ruler. The king of Macedonia once said that if he were not Alexander the Great, he'd be Diogenes of Cinnopy. His cause of death is as cloaked in murky variations as basically every other part of his life story. He would lecture in public spaces, and if no one stopped to listen, he got in this really interesting sort of cruel mode.
