The Death of James I

Two of England's finest naval commanders were taken during this desperate journey across the Atlantic. Drake was 56 years of age and we already know that Queen Elizabeth knighted him before the heroics of the Spanish Armada. Raleigh would continue to man ships that travelled to the Spanish controlled Americas in search of the fabled city of gold called Eldorado. In 1617 a detachment of English sailors did attack a Spanish settlement and on return Raleigh would pay the price with his own head. The Lord High Admiral Charles Howard fared a lot better under the reign of King James I then Walter Raleigh. He lived until 1624 when he died at the very advanced stage of 88 years.
