What Happened to the Witches?
In 1609, four witches in Lagrono were accused of killing 29 people. The church pardoned the women and threw them into prison where they awaited trial. This would go down in history as the famous Lagrono trial. By the end of it, something like 7,000 people were questioned for being a witch.
