Max weber wrote a book about disenchantment, which is his most famous work. In it he argues that capitalism brings about a kind of focus on the material rather than its causes. He also says catholicism and protestantism paved the way for what he called modern capitalism. The two men were both critiqued as being german nationalists at a point in their careers.
