Synesthesia

Sensory synesthesia is a rare condition where people can see colours, smells and tastes. It runs in families but may be caused by genetic or developmental mutations. The most common sufferers are those who have colored alphabets - they'll actually see them as colored. And many of them will say, this always had that. I didn't even realize other people didn’t have a color for, you know, letters of the alphabet, or numbers or amateurs. So it's an interesting link between the processes of perception that naturally involve conceptual categorization with what we call projector synecetes.
