Flanders wasn't just a halfway house for exiled English nobles. It was a major center of chivalric culture. Records suggest Harroward wasn't living there as a refugee. He was an active participant in the many conflicts that Flanders was embroiled in, even serving as a military commander in some of them. So here we have Abbott Turold squaring up against the rebel leader Harroward.
