The Richness of Perception

We see things that we expect more quickly and more accurately than things that we don't expect. The power of expectation, rather than the power of conceptual knowledge, moulds what we see in life no less than in art. We creatively, the brain creatively completes an image to generate our perceptual experience. It's just providing the source on which inference does its work. So for me, this is a really important clue that, yes, it's this beholder sheriff, this top down element of perception that is really sponsible for giving our every day experience texture and shape.
