"There can be subtle assassinations. And you can do it as a parent too," he says. "You discourage certain behaviors, and you don't even know you're doing it." He's drawn to people not just because of the parts of them that you liked but also their differences. The tension between him and his ex-partner is what makes this relationship so interesting.
