Tolkien's English Is Far More Terrible Than Modern
Tolkien says that a real archaic English is far more terse than modern. He explains what he's doing here with this archaic language. The king would really have said, nay thou no us not thine own skill and healing,. It shall not be so I myself will go to war to fall, etc. People who think like that just do not talk a modern idiom.
