The Importance of Carbapenamase Testing
Knowing that an isolate is or is not a carbapenamase producer definitely has infection control implications. Knowing it's not an ESBL for some of our Ceftraxo-Nonsusceptible and terabactors is really useful to me. When I first started at my institution, we had a meropenem problem. We used it on literally everybody,. So much to the fact that, like, Pseudomonas was our least reliable anti- Pseudomonal. It's been a huge goal of mine to reduce that.
