The tuskagee study of untreated syphilis in the n e g r o mail was conducted between 19 32 and 19 72. The subjects were completely unaware, and were told they were receiving treatment for bad blood when they actually received no treatment at all. Out of 400 people, only 70 lived through this, and the rest died of the syphilis that they thought the army was treating them for. There was a class lawsuit for ten surviving participants who paid to have their cases settled out of court. And the last of those died about two years ago.
