Magpie Is an Autnat Thriller
magpie is my fifth novel, and with every single previous novel, i have always started with character and with voice. But with magpie, there were themes that i wanted to write about. And one of the major themes is the idea of the perfect life - but also fertility. I've been through lots of different kinds of treatments and ivy f and all sorts. So i felt that i had never seen that experience reflected in fiction in the way that i might have liked when i was going through it all. It can be quite an uncomfortable theme. If you hadn't been through it yourself, you wouldn't necessarily want to pick up a book that is all about infitility
