Smilla: A Novel About the Female in Me

I was aware when I was writing the book that I was doing something quite unusual. Books have been written before by men from a female point of view and by women from a male point of view but not so much Danish. Smilla was an attempt to give voice to the female in me. Her background has that kind of dichotomy. She's half-green lander. She's standing in two cultures. One lake in each culture. A novel is like running a marathon and it takes many years to become a good marathon runner. And the problem is the last 10 kilometers you lose the full creativity.
