FFP for Cirrhosis: Does It Reduce Bleeding Risk?

FFP or Fresh Frozen Plasma is what you are left with when you take the cellular elements of blood and spin them out. People have a mistaken but emotional attachment to the idea that it reflects auto anticoagulation in people with cirrhosis. The INR is only telling us about the pro-coagulant factors one through 12, and it doesn't tell us about the anticoagulant factor levels,. protein CS and antithrombin, which can also be low in patients with Cirrhosis.
