Washington embodied self control, self abnegation and modesty. Washington did not do a lot of political writing. In the eighteenth century, when political figures wrote things, they wrote them anonymously. The idea was that if you were writing something, some political essay, for example, it didn't have to do with you. It really just had to do with the ideas that you were writing about. And i think he felt that when he expressed his self doubt, that people would not see that as weakness but that they would see it as i strength.
