The Role of Preoperative Counseling in Retinal Surgery

I treat a fovia on macula off probably the same way I would treat a macula on. With the exception that I will do more of a preoperative counseling about metamorphopsia. There's certainly some good data from the pivot study showing some benefits for visual QUT with the pneumatic retinomyxie. But there's a lot of detachments that we see that just don't meet the classic criteria for getting a pneumatic. And so if it's a young patient, there's no PPED. If there's not much of a cataract, I usually would lean towards a buckle.
