The education system is very externally regulated by adults from the top down. There's very little leeway for young people to to make those decisions and to explore ideas in an open-ended way it's all sort of working towards this predetermined end point yeah that often the young people haven't really signed up toYeah I think we're really missing the trick, he says. In some ways you can think of adolescents as being quite risk averse they're averse to taking social risks over and above everything else Yeah there are lots of overlaps between our work on self-monitoring and learning to learn.
