In many Indo-European cultures this tradition of a horse sacrifice, which in which the horse represents the sun and it also relates both to the fertility of the land. So Yule originally was centered around the sacrifice and eating of a horse. It makes me think if Apollo is associated with the sun and Apollo's chariot, Apollo is a horse drawn chariot, it was supposed to draw the sun across the sky in some traditions.
