The Witches Say to Banquo You Will Be the Father of Kings

This play was written after the gunpowder plot as a celebration of James because people believed that Banquo had been the ancestor of James in this play. In some ways it makes sense to paint Macbeth and Lady Macbeth with such flat collars of being ambitious, of being disloyal. It seems as though Banquo actually did not exist historically but you know that doesn't matter. Shakespeare expects the audience to know when the witches say to Banquo you will be the the father of kings that they're talking about James down the line.
