Orogastric lavage and activated charcoal may be necessary in patients who present within one to two hours of an ingestion. Angel tensing two with the brand name G-apressa, a vasoconstrictor can be considered in patients who are 18 years of age and above. Atropine is a muscarinic antagonist and thus, it should be administered to any patient with symptomatic bradycardia after a calcium channel blocker overdose. Close monitoring of the serum or ionized calcium concentration with measurements every two hours as well as serial EKGs are necessary to avoid clinically significant hypercalcemia which has been reported with intensive calcium therapy.
