The Importance of Commenting in Programming

The best contributions to GHC would have no comments because the code would be so self-evidently correct and beautiful that they wouldn't need comments. Getting to that point seems hard, right? And it seems very hard or impossible to immediately come up with the beautiful elegant algorithm that needs no comment. Can you remember a story or an example of that happening? Well, this current one, this refactors, is although the new code is not simple, the newcode is quite complicated also. We haven't quite gotten to that story.
