happy the elephant epitomizes lawsuit as legitimacy launderer. There are so many times when a weird or bizarre idea that would otherwise be seen as outlandish is somewhat seriously just because someone filed a lawsuit about it. I covered lawyers suing mcdonalds for obesity over ten years ago. The analogy was made to lawsuits against cigarette companies. It was a very, very inexact analogy. It had no chance of winning. But by god. Because the newsworthiness isn't really the possibility of success, it's that the suit exists at all.
