The United States Did Not Miss the Opportunity

Africa really is the continent of the future. The average age in Africa is 19. Germany is 49. In the United States, I think it's in the 40s but not as high as 49. Until African governments get more of a handle on that, you're going to see a lot of Western companies nervous about investing there.
