A federal law requires internet providers to make copies of a person's entire account. This is so that the government, if it needs to access it later on for law enforcement purposes, is able to access it. Orrin Kern: In 2019, about one in every 820 adults had one of their accounts copied for possible government use. "The Fourth Amendment only applies against government action," he says.
