There are browser plugins that work with Gmail, but most of those work with exposed APIs and processes. LinkedIn is probably the most highly abused. I think it's a losing battle because a lot of times they adapt within a few days. But yeah, I can see a use like that where one other one I used to use, hey.com instead of Gmail.
