Flight 587: A Memoir of a Terrorist Flight
In 2001, 51 weekly direct flights were being made from JFK to the Dominican Republic. 90% of the passengers on the flight were of Dominican descent. The plane hit turbulence caused by a Japan Airlines flight as it was taxiing and broke apart in mid-air. All 251 passengers, nine crew members, and even five on the ground lost their lives.
