We are essentially engaging in zenia psychology to some degree. What are the activities of another civilization? We can't really guess at their motivations too well, but we can look at the source of behaviors we engage in and at least look for them. There's a very long list of technosignatures that people have suggested we could look for. These bright flashes of light or even gravitational wave detections from LIGO could be detected. You could have Dyson spheres. The idea of covering basically a star is completely covered by some kind of structure which collects all the light from the star to power the civilization. And there appears to no compelling examples of what looks like a dyson
