The Unexpected Flip Side of the Interventionist Multilateralism
There was a naive belief for an awfully long time that economic integration would make actions like this impossible, because it would damage the country so much. The impetus towards war has always been more disconnected from economics than we would like to think. On the eve of world war one, trade global ade but was at a peak that would not be matched for many decades after the war. A wart proved a complete disaster for all sides involved.
