The Rise of the Franciscans in the New World
Much of the campaign in the new world is also about Christianization, but it couldn't be as simple as all that. In 1610, New Mexico converts from a proprietary enterprise to one that's funded by the crown. And so from that point on for the rest of the 17th century, there's these sometimes conflicting, sometimes mutually reinforcing goals where you have the Franciscans who are trying to baptize and Christianize.
