The Importance of Psychiatry in Mental Health
Psychiatry is the approach to mental health that emerged kind of out of the asylum system. Since 1980, psychiatry has leaned a lot on biological ideas around what they call mental disorders or mental illness. I also argue that a large issue with psychiatric knowledge is that it presents itself as kind of objective truth. It doesn't make space for the possibility that there are other models for thinking about our realities.
