WHY? Philosophical Discussions About Everyday Life

CHAPTER

Saving Animals, Saving Ourselves

Saving Animals, Saving Ourselves is really fun because I'm not sure how to describe it but it's the kind of book that people think of philosophy books reads like if they've never read them. What you argue is that philosophers historically have relied on ethical theories to come to various conclusions. The two dominant ones are utilitarianism and rights theory. And my point is when we take those extra steps to take these abstract philosophical theories and figure out what they imply we should do in particular situations,. They really do start to converge. We should spend less time arguing and hating each other over which theory is right. And more time really building coalitions around these pluralistic frameworks for practice.
