The Problem With Sun Su's Text as a Historical Artifact
Toshi Yoshihara is senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments. He has written a chapter in New Makers of Modern Strategy on Sun Su's "Art of War" The text claims to speak from one era, but it actually reflects a period that began around 470 BC or so ending around 220 BC. Toshi: There is this weird historical disjuncture between what the text claims to be talking about and what the text is actually talking about.
