How to Use Collective Nouns in English

In American English, you might hear, I'll try a really bad American accent. Where's the soccer team is losing? Sorry, I got lost, are we in America or Australia? Can you do it again? I'm not as good as you. Not as good either. But I'll try again. A resis soccerteam is losing. That's terrible, isn't it? Is that what Americans would tend to use for collective nouns? In British English, like team, they can either be singular or plural,. Both are used, although the plural form is most often used. Most British people use are. So the opposite of American English.
