The History of the Chinese Boxers

The boxer movement started in Chantung Province, which is south of Beijing. It spread like wildfire, even though it didn't really have any kind of central leader or power structure. Its anti-western, anti-Christian sensibilities were appealing to people who were living in overcrowded impoverished areas. The boxers openly disliked and distrusted Westerners and Christians.
