The label analytic philosophy was first used by american philosophers in the 19 thirties to refer to a phenomenon that they regarded explicit as european. The label continental philosophy then came up in the 19 fifties, used by british philosophers who still regarded themselves as europeans but realized what they were doing was very different from current movements in france and germany.
