Jessica Lahey on Preventing Substance Abuse in Kids

The Rich Roll Podcast

CHAPTER

Adolescence and Substance Abuse

Just because a kid has a drink of alcohol or some drugs does not mean that they're going to be addicted either. During adolescence, drugs and alcohol do some things to the brain that just don't happen later. The only time where the brain is developing at this rate is from birth to two. Kids are so much as happening in their brains. They're really in a place where and also, they're becoming and that's scary. Not liking yourself is sort of a part of adolescence here and there. And drugs and alcohol kind of fix that in a short term too.
