I think it's hard for Americans to appreciate the level of hatred by the Ukrainians toward the Russian. Even many of the ethnic Russians who would have been more viewed Russian more favorably previous to the invasion have been pushed in the other direction. I agree with you that there's certainly lots of them that want to fight, although they are also forcing a whole lot of people to fight. It's kind of is impossible to exactly know who wants to be there and who doesn't because if you're a military age man in Ukraine right now, you don't have a choice.
