The SEC's approach, which they are doubling down on has failed to accomplish their statutory objectives. This whole approach did not prevent any of the massive collapses that occurred last year. And in my opinion, aggravates the potential of those problems because keeping everything outside the regulatory perimeter doesn't benefit good actors and people trying to offer safe products to consumers.
