We are attached to the idea that the individual is autonomous, not just in feeling and choice but in knowledge. We already have machines that know better than we do what it is that we prefer. So how does that work politically? Your book has so many fascinating claims and a lot of them have political implications. What does it mean to say that individuals are not going to be confronted by more powerful states but by states that will break them up?
