The Importance of Complexity in Modernization

The biggest problems that companies really want to go through a modernization effort, what they really face is complexity and complexity of the status quo. I've worked with companies that have started the process of modernization and just stopped because it was way too complex. It's very hard to find the culture of a corporation which allows you to modernize out of this gunk in a way that makes the company successful. And often times you have to go down before you go up.
