Ramesses had compiled an army of around 20,000 individuals and they were separated into four divisions named after Egyptian deities. It is believed that Ramesses dispatched a party of 5,000 men to secure the port city of Tsumu before the bulk of the army made their way towards Kadesh itself by departing from Pyramases in Sinai.
